Theatre and film acting, directing and writing workshops and courses
The Actors Space is a renowned international centre of theatre and film, located in a place of outstanding natural beauty, only one hour from Barcelona. We provide high quality training for actors, directors, writers, teachers and students of dramatic art.
“In life I want students to be alive and on stage I want them to be artists”
Our workshops and courses are inspired by our work with Jacques Lecoq and from our own professional experience with several theatre and film companies, universities and festivals around the world.
We are theatre and film makers with many years of professional experience who share our techniques and knowledge in a special environment. The training is practise based – this is learning by doing – and covers all aspects of performance: Acting, directing and writing.
Over the years we have hosted professional actors, drama students, teachers, directors, writers, dancers, comics, singers and enthusiastic beginners. Many participants develop a relationship with the Actors Space and come back time and time again to do different acting courses.
What has evolved here since 1999 is a special approach to creating dramatic and comic art. The ‘real’ Actors Space is the inner world of the audience. Even though we are making work for the stage or screen, it is only ever fully born within each individual viewer, in their imagination, emotions, beliefs and innermost unspoken thoughts. To aspire to inhabit this terrain requires careful preparation and respectful technique.
We have welcomed over thirty different nationalities: from the UK to Italy – Australia to South Africa – Russia to USA, Japan to India. Each workshop creates a new culture, one that shares our common humanity. Participants are freed from their own cultural constrictions and opened to fresh possibilities and new ways of working.
We also run acting and directing workshops internationally at performing arts colleges, universities and other venues.

We’d like to thank Janneke Aalbers for capturing such lovely images of what we do and giving her permission for us to use them. Most of the photographs on the website have been taken by her.
